Tendinopathy is a term used to describe pain and swelling within a tendon – the structure that links muscles to bones. In exercising individuals, this can get damaged through overstretching the area or commonly through overuse, leading to gradually increasing pain.
Common sites may include the patella tendon (knee) or Achilles tendon (heel). These painful conditions can go on for many months if left unchecked. Traditional treatments such as steroid injections may be contraindicated in these conditions and need careful evaluation in order to plan the best management.
