Introducing Sports & Exercise Medicine Discipline
Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) is the newest medical speciality, recognised by the Royal College of Physicians in 2005 and in 2008 I became the first formally recognised specialist in this field.
SEM is not just aimed at elite athletes; one of the main aims is to promote exercise as method of improving public health and recovering from illness, as well as treating injuries from sport.
As well as my private and NHS practice, I have been very involved with education in this field and currently I am the clinical director of Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath.
Here’s a video outlining the benefits of our very successful MSc and diploma course for doctors.
In this section, I aim to regularly post information relevant to health professionals who wish to grow their expertise in the field of Sports and Exercise Medicine.
